Were the answers written on the bottom of literacy tests, like George Wallace claimed on "Firing Line?" (self.AskHistorians)

I've heard a ton about literacy tests in the South, and have seen a ton of different examples showing how hard it would be to pass them.

But on "Firing Line" with William F. Buckley, at the 25:30 minute mark, George Wallace says the newspapers print the questions, but like to leave out the fact that the answers were written on the same piece of paper as the test questions, so it's a test of if you can read enough to recognize what answers go to what questions, not if you actually know the answers to the (very difficult) questions.

Is that true? Because I've seen the questions a ton in history books and stuff, and kind've feel duped (even though literacy tests were obviously bullshit in general) if it is, and the history books were doing the same thing Wallace said the newspapers were. That's hugely misleading.

Here's the episode. It's at 25:30.

I've Googled this a ton and seen some non-Alabama examples of literacy tests but nobody seems to have the answer, and Buckley never challenges Wallace on it. Nor have I see any newspapers or anything from the time challenging him on the claim.
