Where can I get typed documents translated and printed to Braille?(self.Blind)
submitted by [deleted]
I'm hoping to write a letter to a blind friend. Are there websites where I can submit my letter and have them translate/print it so that I can send it to him?
Thanks!

Does your blind friend use a computer? Most do, email might be way easier. (They use a screen reader that reads the email aloud.)

Yes, he does. However, I sort of prefer the sentimental value of a paper letter. But that's not a bad idea!

Why not both?
To send a really short note, for sentimental value, download a braille font, then type a short message in all lowercase, switch it to the braille font, print it on cardstock paper, and carefully punch through each dot from the rear of the paper.

That ... is brilliant. So simple but so smart.

Check first to see if they read Braille off a braille display. If they have a device connected by the computer, then they only need a regular email to read your message in braille.
There are commercial services that do Braille translation and embossing.
Also embossing machines are available, but they are pricy.
I'd seek out a local government agency that serves the disabled and visually-impaired.

If you're UK, why not get a handframe from the rnib (rnib.co.uk) reasonably cheap, takes an age to write but comes with the alphabet! It won't be contracted though, so it's not necessarily the easiest method.
