It looks like we've got a few blind artists on here, so I thought I'd announce my presence as well. I dapple in a number of art forms, including songwriting, poetry, and even blind photography. The latter two I sometimes center around my experiences as a blind person, in order to: 1) get things off my chest, 2) connect with those who might be going through the same things, and 3) educate the public and bridge the gap between the blind and sighted communities. Please feel free to check out my poetry and photography at http://MelissaRaye.deviantart.com or listen to my music at www.youtube.com/supertyphoonmelissa. I'd also love to see any links to your artwork as well, and will be posting a few more links to other blind artists I know in the comments. XOXO, Mel

Awesome to see so much creativity! Great photos and you have a beautiful voice. I'm a professional musician living in Brisbane, Australia and I'm legally blind. I'm a life long martial artist and teach from time to time. I also enjoy photography and was surprised to find it's quite common among blind and visually impaired people. I only do black and white film photography as I have no colour vision and the coarse grain helps reflect how I see things. You've inspired me to scan some of my pics and post them here. Keep up the good work. Andy

You just made my day! :D Definitely share your photos with other people! I have met some harsher criticisms, but for the most part, my photography has spoken to people in the way I intended it to.

Mel, you might like to know that there is a Blind Artists Society page on LInkedIn.
You're welcome to look at my humble blind photography slideshows on YouTube. I don't pretend I'll get a job at National Geographic, but that doesn't matter!
Keep on creating!

Finally, if you haven't already heard of him, I'd like to share my friend John Bramblitt with you. He is a blind painter who oddly has a similar story to the one Caitlin wrote about Brenna in her musical. John lost his sight due to complications with epilepsy and, after literally and figuratively groping in the dark for several months, he had an epiphany and began finding ways to be able to paint. He is an incredible human being and one of my greatest heroes. You can find him online at www.bramblitt.net. He has also published a book entitled Shouting in the Dark, which can be found on Amazon. Finally, this short documentary on his process might be of interest to you: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-8bmGSYQZo Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM82Shp9cGk

This link is also from my deviantART page, but it's an opinion piece about another artist who happens to be one of my very best friends. Caitlin wrote her own musical about a teenager who loses her sight in a car accident and decides to pursue her art anyway. Read for my take on our history, Brenna's character, and other resources, such as an article on Huffington Post, a segment on NPR, and a link where you can purchase a DVD of the performance. http://melissaraye.deviantart.com/journal/Dreaming-in-Color-And-Making-Dreams-a-Reality-393808555
