Low Vision-Accessible Web Forums? (self.Blind)
submitted by lyssargh
Could anyone direct me to a forum-generator or forum that specializes in low vision (something like PHPBB or vBulletin)? I want to build a forum that needs to be accessible to people with low vision, but I do not know where to start with this.

I do know that it needs to be compatible with ZoomText and JAWS, but I'm not sure how to test for that, other than trial and error of using JAWS and ZoomText with it. I have access to both, but I do not use them on a regular basis, so I'm not sure I'm the best test for that. :)

Any feedback would be hugely appreciated. Thanks! :)

I don't have any experience with JAWS, limited with zoomtext
I've found that 'mobile sites compared to full sites are impossible (for me) to read.

Vbullitetin is pretty good in 'full site mode.

Would you mind giving more information about why those mobile sites are impossible for you to read? Do they not zoom well, are the fonts too small and not alterable, etc.?

What problems do you have with Vbulletin and what's good about it, please? :)

ill give you a bit of info :-)
I don't have access to any cool software, when i access a 'mobile site', I obviously can't zoom in to read the texts and therefore have to navigate around to find the 'full site' button.

I have posted on several VBulletin boards and stuff and im able to zoom in (vis my iphone and android tablet) quite easily.

Ahhh, gotcha. I tend to zoom at about 200% on most sites (like Reddit!) but I haven't used VBulletin myself. I know a lot of forums screw up zooming pretty badly.

Thanks for the info!!

Are you building a website from scratch or are your intentions to create a forum such as this in a pre existing website?

Most of those applications i.e ZoomText, JAWS and Zoom for Apple will work with almost any website out there. What you have to worry about is how well they work with other applications such as Adobe photoshop, Lightroom, autoCAD, illustrator, SPSS etc.

The zoom functions will still work with these applications but the people building them did not consider functionality when the screen was zoomed in so the UI is horrible and difficult to use.
