How could I go about setting up a lunch group for my blind mom? (self.Blind)
submitted by longdongT
So my mom is blind and one of the hardest things for her is being stuck in the house alone. My brother and I are in college and my dad works like 65 hours a week so most of the time we are not available to spend time with her or take her places. I was thinking it would mean the world to my mom if she was able to have like a regular lunch or breakfast group of fellow blind people once a week or so. We live like a block away from a light rail station (electric trait that runs through Denver) and I think it would be a great resource to arrange these lunches. How could I go about finding her some friends along these tracks that might be interested in doing something like this? I have no idea where to start and the idea of advertising meeting up with a blind female alone sounds really dangerous. Any ideas?

Hi, perhaps it would be an idea to email Nat federation / council for blind and ask if they know of local groups as a first step. Also your local area govt might have support info on their website leading to social groups. Sorry to be a bit vague but am not in US.
