Any opinions on Chromebooks / ChromeOS (self.Blind)
submitted 9y ago by rddt1983
My boss is blind and is using a decrepit Windows XP machine running Jaws. She is constantly having both hardware and software issues, and is overall stuck in the last decade with how she uses a computer.

I have a Chromebook and really love it, and I know it would serve her needs from a computing standpoint, only I don't really know if the TTS is up to snuff. Do any of you have opinions on whether the TTS is a viable replacement for someone used to Jaws?

At this point, chrome book is not even close to a viable replacement for a Windows machine running jaws. I suspect that your bosses problem has more to do with her lack of knowledge on how to use a computer then problems with jawss itself. Jaws is capable of running on the most up-to-date machines. Also, I think I might be the only real blind person who actually reads /r/blind. Most other blind people don't use Reddit. It's probably because the website is difficult to use with screenreader software due to the massive amount of pictures.

Thanks. This is the sort of feedback I was hoping for.

Perhaps a chromebook is a bridge too far. What about the cloud-based apps in general? Are things like gmail and google docs just too much of a pain in the ass to navigate?

I haven't ever seen a reply to a post in this subreddit... I'm also interested in this.
