Blind people of Reddit, what function should have a website, to be fully adapted to your needs? (self.Blind)

Hi,

I'm a blind web programmer. I'm using a screen reader, and your website could use some adjustment.

I'd be glad to talk with you over an IM service for more detail, but here are a few things off the bat:

* The dialog that opens for sign up is not completely accessible.
* There are bits and pieces of text that are not related to the content around them. Remember, the position of a piece of text relative to what it's related to makes the sighted understand the logic behind its existence, but those using screen readers don't have such information, and thus can't understand what something is about.

Hope this helps, and let me know if something didn't make sense.

P.S.: The best way to fix all the issues would be for us to go through your website together, since I don't understand a lot of it myself. :)

Hi,

Thanks for the info. Ever tip is precious to me because of the fact that I haven't done anything like this before. I will have a moment to work on in after the weekend. I will definitely contact You. :)

Awesome! I'd love to help! Every website that's made usable for the blind means more access to the Internet! :)

I'm sorry but I don't want to reveal it for now. We are making also a version in English so I can send you the address when we finish it.

My wife is the legally blind one, but this is her input. She can see, but reads with magnification, or a large monitor.

Have the site read the text to you. She views a lot on her Ipad, and she likes how it reads to her, but it does the whole page, not just the parts she taps on. She also put it "zoom in and then have it read to me".

Have all of the text fit in a zoomed in screen.

No sound or video popups, she can never figure out to close them.

thanks 4 the info. I've read a little about sites 4 legally blind and i found some info that possibility to change contrast is all very useful. Is that truth? Maby Your wife has some examples of sites that are simple and comfortable 4 her to use? What about those sound or video popups, what would make them easy to close? Is Your wife a member of an association? I could really use some help with testing this site after making that upgrade.

Change in contrast is not useful for my wife, but some her reading machines do both contrast and black and white inversion.

She has no sites that she like in paticular.

To close popups she like it when they have big Xs. Usually she doesnt see the little X that is usually there.

She used to be part of a few associations, but she is not at all an active. She is a active member on the facebook page of her paticular eye disease (she now has stable vision).

She would be fine with looking at a website when it is ready.

I will be very grateful to her for checking the page. We have already begun adapting it and I think in the next week, maybe we can finish this. I'll send you a PM with the address of development version It will be ready.
Thanks again for your help.
