Is this helpful to blind people? (self.Blind)
submitted 8y ago by KhanMan15
I pass a blind man many mornings on my early walks with my dog. I say "good morning" to him and most people, but always him. I guess I just let him know I'm passing by and aware of him. I'm sure he knows my dog and I were there far before I got close, but regardless is it helpful?

Tldr;
Saying a getting to a blind person to make them aware of your presence; helpful?

It is still a nice thing to do and I'm sure he appreciates it

I agree that saying hello is just a pleasantry no matter who you're saying it to. For entering rooms though, especially in an office or school can be helpful. I've had times where I don't recognize the person's voice and don't know who is talking to me.

I'd usually hear you coming but saying hi to someone is just friendly anyway. Saying "I'm coming up on your left" is much more obnoxious. And most people that try that are wrong anyway since they're coming from the other way.

Not just for blind people. It is good to greet any fellow human being when you pass them IMO- there seems to be too little of that going around. What would be really helpful to the blind person though is for you to introduce your slef and then everytime you walk past him, say "good morning, it's <name>." so you're not just a faceless, namelss person to him.

No as there are plenty of deaf blind people out there(not always 100% blind either). He already knew you were there anyway.
