Could a 3d feedback device like this be used to steer the blind and relay their surrounding images (youtube.com)

I can think of lots of possibilities here. What are you thinking of, a device that a blind person would hold and that would contort to show surroundings? It's still a relatively new area, but I think there is something to be said for new ways to relay surroundings. Now, we have GPS for location info, canes for knowing about nearby objects, surface (sidewalk vs. grass), and some other lesser-used devices that can detect objects within a certain distance, though I've never had great luck with the latter. But using modern tech to quickly relay surroundings for driving, riding a bike, or other faster moving travel is a definite possibility. You have to account for what's in front of you, next to you, and possible hazards. Also, what's the best way to relay this info in the quickest amount of time.

My idea was this. Mount this reversed, on a vest, and have it thinner. The device than relays back to them 3d maps of all their forward surroundings so they can see street sizes, objects moving, cars, etc. You could also program pegs to vibrate or fluctuate if an object is moving towards the person, so they could get out of harms way.
