Anyone use tactile directional paving? (self.Blind)

Just wondering if anyone uses the paving slabs that are supposed to help blind and partially sighted people know which direction to go in shopping centres etc.? What do you think of them?

I use those when i walk to know where i can cross the road.
They are terribly marked where i live, so it's generally a terrible idea to walk around without a cane or a sighted person - yet i hate walking in broad daylight with the cane - it's just my pride... (Also: i love to run. So crossing the road aleays with the cane around where i live draws too much attention for my comfort)
