Query for people with a severe visual impairment, concerning memory - how do you reminisce? (self.Blind)
submitted 8y ago by Upsilontzet
Hello,
I am researching memory, and how it relates to visual impairments.

I would like to ask how individuals with a visual impairment reminisce about past experiences, where purely visual activities like viewing a photograph are not applicable?

thank you for your time

Audio recordings. I, and most of the blind people I know, have vast troves of recorded audio. This used to be from little portable tape recorders, but these days, a lot of it comes from iPhones and other digital recorders. Some blind people really care deeply about audio reproduction, and go to a lot of expense to get the best audio quality possible. But others, like me, just use whatever microphone is built-in to whatever device we happen to have. It's really the same way sighted people take photographs or movie clips, taken for the same reasons, and with the same variety of frequency/technique/quality, depending on the person.
