Studying Assistive Apps for College Class. Please help by taking a 5-minute survey (self.Blind)
submitted 8y ago by Nick_w_c
Hello r/blind!

My classmates and I have been doing a semester long study on assistive mobile apps like Be My Eyes and would like your feed back on their effectiveness. Please help us by taking a short 5-minute survey on https://umich.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cAscThuzVFItc2N

We could use all of the responses we can get. Thanks in advanced!

P.S. if you have any feedback on the survey itself don't hesitate to leave in the comments

Sorry, the question "Please rank the following tasks by difficulty" was completely inaccessible with every screen reader I tried (NVDA, IOS, Mac). I'm not finding anywhere to type or select a number. If you want to survey the blind community, you need to put in the effort of testing your surveys for accessibility on, at minimum, one platform.

Sorry about that! We are using Qualtric's survey software since it was required for our class. But you're right. We should have checked how accessible it was via mobile and screen readers before we launched it. If you know of any other survey platforms that perform better let me know, and we'll try launching a second iteration. And of course we'll keep looking for a better solution as well

I've taken surveys built in Survey Monkey and Google Docs that have been accessible. But I've never created a survey myself, so from the perspective of the creators, I don't know if they did anything special on those platforms to make sure they were accessible.

Just letting you know that this survey website doesn't work with mobile voice over. I hear the questions just fine, however the answers paired to the radio buttons do not announce themselves so I don't know what the radio button select. This is rather funny considering that your first question asks if I use an iPhone or not, yet I cannot answer it while using an iPhone…

Good questions.
I answered.
I'm comfortable askign strangers in twitter or reddit to explain to me what's in a picture.
But i'm extremely uncomfortable when i go out to see a movie when i really shluld ask for audio description headset. :( (and the cinema i go even alone to does not have them).
I'm very uncomfortable asking anyone help with reading papers or documents.
I'm extremely uncomfortable when I see any doctors or medical staff.
I can't do grocery shopping alone, but I'm glad my other half is a good driver and has patience with me when we shop with a list.
