Is there any word or does anyone know if the new os for windows has in intergrated text-to-speech support? Or are we going to have to go out and get N.V.D.A or Jaws as usual?

Yes, Windows 10 will contain a basic built-in screen reader. It's good enough to change system settings and use most built-in apps. But if you want to use third party stuff like Firefox, Thunderbird, VLC, Audacity, ITunes, and so on, and so on, you'll need to download NVDA or some other screen-reader.

The Main Menu show on ACBRadio has been doing a long series on Windows 10, so if you're interested in all the details, you might want to head over and give that a listen before upgrading.

At the risk of starting a Windows Mac debate; I find Windows accessibility options pale in comparison to what the Mac has built in.

OS X screen zoom works flawlessly for me and I have noticed that the screen reader is available even on the install screens. (I don't use screen readers so can't attest to their quality)

When I have to use Windows, I run it in a virtual machine so I can still use Macs zoom features.

Cheers

I agree with you about OSX, for the most part. Unfortunately, Safari is just a terrible browser, and most sites that I use daily don't support it, and Firefox has no screen-reader support on OSX, so I'm stuck with Windows most of the time. These days, everything I do is in the browser: GMail, Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Spreadsheets, online banking, online accounting, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, WordPress, Drupal, and so on. I'm excitedly waiting to hear more about the FirefoxOS and how accessible that is, because a machine that boots directly into Firefox and does nothing else would be perfect for me.
