Now I have this embarrassing feeling that I've shouted at a few blind people in my time.

It's ok - happens a lot. So many people pretend you don't exist when they see the dreaded cane. Or they touch you without permission. Or insist with handshakes, fist bumps, high fives or other body contact.
I try to be open about my eye limits. But it feels often so odd when I don't wear a cane all the time.
