I'm looking to work, volunteer or full time, with the blind. I work in software as a profession but really don't know where the best place to start would be.

Any advice would be much appreciated, I'm currently in the Portland area but can easily relocate.

I would check out the $1 as a start to see if they have something. Also $1 has a campus in Portland if that's something that interests you. You could also check out /r/Portland to see if someone there has a connection to an organization that you can volunteer for.

My son (he's 12 and visually impaired) is creating an app to help visually impaired people access menus at restaurants that post menus behind cash registers (think McDonalds and Starbucks). You can help us out by going to https://my.ideator.com/sign_up and creating a log in to Ideator, the company that's helping us. Go to "ideas" and scroll down to Eye Menu. Read about our project and then click the heart icon. This will help us get more recognition. If you're interested in EyeMenu, pm me. Thanks!
