Help with Birthday/Christmas Gifts for visually impaired father (self.Blind)

To make this short, my dad has next to no vision now and could have no vision after emergency eye surgery tomorrow. He will still be recovering during Christmas and there is a possibility that he won't recover. I am trying to think of Birthday/Christmas gifts for him that he can enjoy if he does end up losing his vision completely. He can't read braille and I think it would be too soon to get him something to teach him braille. If you guys could help that would be great! Thanks!

If you are in the US, try searching for a local organization/institute for the blind and visually impaired. They would have a variety of services including free audiobooks available through the National Library of Congress. Sounds also like your dad will need some extra emotional support these coming days. It is always best to think about what he will enjoy, however here are some things I enjoy.
I will never stop raving about the $1. It is an awesome tactile timepiece that I use every day.
You may also want to look into adapted living things. Adapted kitchen equipment (microwave, measuring implements, etc.) can be great. You can find this stuff at Maxiaids and a few other disability related distributors.
I also really like my Trekker Breeze which is a mobility GPS that has really made navigating a lot easier. These are just a few ideas, it really depends on what your dad likes.

Something scented, something tactile or something auditory based. Does he like books or music? Maybe some audio books?
