Games for new Ipad mini 4. (self.Blind)
submitted by romanj35
My mother spent 4 large for an ipad mini 4 rather than learning how to use the free skype out there. So, I had heard that apple ios was so much better then android when it came to text-to-speech accessability. But playing with it so far I'm severely disappointed. To be fair, I'm not interested in games like dice world. I'm more interested in games that are fantasy, role playing games science fiction and the like. Not text adventures.
Sadly, for the longest time I let the hardcore apple fans tell me that everything works perfectly for ios and it's obviously not the case. But then I have given those fans some slack as most of the ones I know personally were born blind and didn't have the years of gaming stuff like World of Warcraft and Asheron's Call like I did.
Anyways, if you guys know of some games that work with voice-over please let me know. Like I said, I already know about Dice world and it's not for me. Thanks guys.

I am baffled by the appeal of Dice World as well.

If you haven't played "A Dark Room", start with that. There is a sappy screen reader specific ending which some have found insulting as "inspiration porn"

My wife is a hopeless addict to "Lords & Knights" a free to play realtime strategy game. I would hate to condemn you to her fate by suggesting you try it though...

There are also some good roguelike games.

Hmm, I don't mind a rogue-like. Know the name of the games by any chance?

Sorry for the delay in responding and sorry that most of these will be for Android rather than IOS.

Random Adventure Pro (Android)
Totally Random Hero (Android)

Not roguelike--A Blind Legend

Blind Droid Minesweeper is pretty good minesweeper

The $1 site has some good resources in it's $1

$1 has been a good source of iOS gaming ideas.

I think video games are the second thing I miss most (as materialistic as that sounds).

I also hate dice world, no advice, but I too miss the games from my sighted games.

There's very limited options on mobile for the blind. In reality, you'll find much more on Windows. Also, check out audiogames.net if you haven't before.

Just out of curiosity, what are the games like on the android side of things? Do they have more of the types of games you like to play?

To answer your question, my favorite games for iOS are Papa Sangre 1 and 2. As far as games like Wow, the closest you're going to get are muds like alter Aeon. They're text based, but they do have soundpacks. However, it might be easier for you to play them on your computer. There are mud clients for iOS, but they can be difficult to play if you don't have a blue tooth keyboard.

In a single word, abysmul lol. There's a few games that work great, but for the most part they are text adventures like Lifeline, Wizard's Choice and the like. Blind archery and sound based games work great too. A few games like Stekk and Stekk 2 and Totally Random Hero work well, but they're from the 09 to 2011 time period, back when google play was newer.
There's also the web based games like Downtown mafia and those games work well.

Unfortunatly it seems games for the blind are just that. There's very few that both blind and sighted can play and I've never seen one marketed to both properly.
