An amazing Uber experience I would like to shar. (self.Blind)
submitted by BARDLover
This is just a recent Uber ride a took, that I would love to share with people. Hopefully if you ever take Uber, your experience can be just as good.

Before he picked me up, I texted him to let him know I am legally blind, and asked if he would be able to walk up to me, since I couldn't see his car.

He parked his car, found me, identified himself as Uber, and verified it with my/his names, guided me to his car (was very interested in learning sighted guide), helped me in, and helped me find somewhere to go out to.

He offered to charge my phone for me, since he didn't want me to be stranded without a ride. (Well, he offeres to everyone, but he specialized his offer to me.)

When we got to the restaurant, he parked, bolted to my door to open it for me. I asked him to show me to the door, and he did. I then tried to thank him for the ride, and he opened the door for me, asked me if I wanted the bar or a booth. I told him bar. He said, "Okay, you sit yourself, where would you like to sit?"

The Uber driver literally helped me find a seat in the crowded bar. If that's not enough, he then flagged down a bar tender for me.

That Uber driver, is a 5 star driver, and I hope my future ride are half as good as this one.

Do you mind if I forward this to my Uber HQ contact?

Sounds good.

Will be out of town until tomorrow evening, or Monday evening ... don't quite have my schedule down yet.

I'm guessing you don't have a guide dog. If you did, your experience would be much different; these "ride sharing" companies still claim they do not legally need to serve anyone with guide dogs, wheel chairs, etc. Deregulation of the taxi industry is a disaster for anyone who needs special accommodation.

There seems to be more and more articles popping up about folks with service dogs being refused rides. Surely it's only a matter of time before it reaches critical mass and they make an official policy addressing the issue.
I've heard a few good stories so like the comment above it has a lot to do with your market and your individual driver. Sounds like I should give this a shot just to see what happens.

Some cities are really working on the wheel chairs and other disabilities, with Uber Access in Palm Desert as one example, and WAV in New York.

I'll agree though, I have heard Uber can be difficult with guide dogs. If I had one, I would call the driver as soon as I match to let them know.

I like this, it's very encouraging to know that real people are still around.
Never have had a chance to get a Uber, though the technology behind Uber and Lift excite me.

Definitely an outlier driver when compared to my Uber experiences. Lyft tends to be a much friendlier and more service oriented experience like this story.

For me, I've only had one negative experience with Uber, and that was the driver dropped us off, and walked us to the door of, the wrong restaurant, which was right next door to the one we wanted.

What city are you win if you don't mind me asking? I'm in San Francisco and experiences will definitely very market to market.

I live in the greater Seattle area, but this trip was taken in the greater Palm Springs area.
