I think your problem is that you forgot the [Serious] tag. People on /r/AskReddit seem to take pride in posting nonsense in every question without one.

In Canada the bills are all brailled to indicate their size and the coins are unique sizes

I've read about that, but the only tome I've been to Canada (so far) was when I couldn't appreciate that. Now? I'd fall in love with money where the value is brailled.

In AU we have size, texture and (for those with partial vision) colour (bills only).
Interestingly, this seems to be the somewhat over engineered solution the US is officially going with http://www.visionaware.org/blog/visionaware-blog/progress-update-united-states-accessible-currency-project-for-blind-and-visually-impaired-persons/12

Well I can't speak for all blind people or all currencies, but here in Norway it's pretty easy to differ between coins and paper money by size.
Unuhi1 points7y ago
I concur: US paper money is impossible. All the same size, no tactile differences at all.

I wish that was the situation in the US. It seems like in Europe pretty much everywhere there are different sized bills. I fold my paper money but that doesn't really help when I get change. I'm pretty much using a card exclusively at this point to avoid the problem but the machines at registers aren't particularly easy to use at this point either.

Oddly enough, I can't count US change, but can count Japanese yen coins just fine.
So, blind people can absolutely tell the difference in coins, I just personally never bothered to remember after I first learned in the 2nd grade or so.

In the US it's pretty difficult because we have identically sized bills with no physical distinction between denominations. If you have some vision like me then you can bust out a magnifier and check it, but I never do, it's super inconvenient and holds up lines and it might be too dark for me to even do that. To be honest I mostly stick with debit and credit at this point for this reason. The machines aren't super easy to use either, but they are better. If I have to use cash, I try to only use places that I really trust.
