Totally blind and using android (self.Blind)
submitted by MaybeSuicidalRaptor
Hi guys! My SO id's blind and I'm legally blind. I finally got to bring him into the 21st century with a smartphone. Hasn't really touched a computer since the nineties... Lost his sight. So a challenge for him. He hates computers because its hard to learn it.

Everything is going well And Loves it. Leaned know to check time and make calls and thats about it. Leaning how to access voice mail and text message. Eventually, to social media!

Thing is he he's not been able to select options while on call like while automated voice machine. Press one for English, two for Spanish. He can't do it. The talk back feature is silent.

Any workarounds? Much appreciated if you can help us! Any other smartphone tips, experience, and Apps digressions for a luddite also welcomed. :)

There is a great (but expensive) app available for Android devices called Synapptic. Have a look on their website and the service is fantastic. I recommend it to clients using Android for basic use.

Has he tried using earbuds or a headset? Talkback might activate if he does that; it might be refusing to activate because Google is trying to avoid having the sound of talkback come over the phone call. IOS used to have this issue, but they fixed it ages ago. I don't have an Android, so other than that I'm not sure, I'm afraid.
