Ask r/blind thoughts on refreshable braille display? (self.Blind)
submitted by claudettemonet
To clarify, do you use one? Why or why not? If you do use one, which one do you prefer? And any other thoughts on the topic? Are refreshable braille displays worth it? Are they fast enough? etcetera.

I have one, and never use it. I do most of my computing on the go, IE not at a real desk. I find it too large, the batteries don't last long enough, and setting it up is a hastle. I sometimes pull it out when I'm working on a tricky programming project, and then it really does help. But that happens perhaps once a year. So for the cost, I wouldn't purchase another one.

I don't use one. They are extremely expensive ($2k for a 40-cell display) and I'm very slow at reading Braille compared to the speech synthesizer.
