For the ones that you get at the theater, the only way is to call in advance and ask if the projectionist has tested them in the theater at the film is going to be played in. Wednesday assure you that it has been tested, there's not much else you can do but hope that they are correct and wait for the production logos of the movie to begin playing,. My cited girlfriend has missed the first 10 minutes of so many movies because of faulty devices or having them set to the improper channel it's ridiculous… very annoying even though we always get free tickets/passes each time this happens. The disability rights advocates are currently setting up a case against AMC for improper training and usage of audio description devices.
With the Disney application, all you have to do is download the audio description file to your phone and set it to automatically sync up with the audio from the movie once you're in the theater. Works perfectly every time I've tried it! Just make sure you have enough space for the file and your battery is charged.
