I know that in the US there is not a national registry of people with disabilities/service animals. As. Result I need to prove to each new agency that I am disabled.
I am excited about the net uber lawsuit settlement because while I don't currently have a guide dog I am hoping to start the process soon. Unfortunately, the comments (not here, but on the articles themselves) are very anti-service animal as people have had bad experiences with "fake" service animals or emotional support animals. I understand the frustration since I have seen a "support animal" lunge at a service dog.
Has there been any movement towards creating a national registry or at least a certification process for various service animals?
In France they give out national disabled cards that prove your disability to anyone you need to prove it to (you do not have to prove it to anyone you don't want to). There guide dog system is also more controlled and the animals get certification/registration.
I realize putting people on lists is contentious right now, but it seems to me that the system needs an update.
Does anyone know more about this?
