Supermarket experiences (self.Blind)
submitted by Kaneshe
I want to make the daily life of blind people more comfortable so I was wondering about the experiences are.
Could you please tell me about the trials and if possible the sweet memories are at the supermarket?

Thanks in advance and I hope I can be of some help soon.

Why don't people do an sharing economy when they shop for their own grocers. Get paid like $2 50 when doing an order in a store and meet the person to transfer the basket to.

Online shopping is the way to go. I've done this since college and can't imagine how much time I've saved. I have some vision, bu treading labels and prices takes so much longer and other customers are pretty rude about it unless you're carrying a cane (...and even then). Also, bigger trips aren't possible without getting a ride or calling a cab making the delivery fee as cheap if not cheaper than actually going to the store myself.

I would like to see more stores offer a "order for pickup" option with a low or no fee. This would allow for smaller grocery orders (as opposed to the delivery options which usually have a $50 or more minimum). It would also allow for a shorter turnaround time. Frankly, it'd be useful for sighted and blind alike. I think I've heard Amazon is already planning on something like this in Seattle.

I do most of my grocery shopping online. If I go to a store regularly I can remember where stuff is or the staff help me. If it's a strange store I will ask someone. If I have my white cane people are always really helpful.

Online grocery delivery has changed everything. It's fast, not very expensive, and accessible.

Thanks for your honest reply.
Just a quick question, would there be any reason for you to go to the supermarket since you can buy everything online?
Another question, assume you are travelling and urgently need to buy ome food and drinks, would you like to walk around the supermarket to buy groceries or rather have a tablet to buy groceries?

I've had that come up! When travelling, thanks to IPhone apps, it's now just so easy to order out. Open the app, it uses your GPS to tell you what places near you deliver, and place your order. I can't see a time I'd be travelling and want to do my own shopping in an unfamiliar store in an unfamiliar city. The times I was travelling on my own and wanted food, I just ordered out. Plus, even if I did go shopping for food, I wouldn't want to cook in a kitchen I don't know; even if I'm staying somewhere with a kitchen I could use to cook, who knows where anything is, or how the oven works?
