Help me Add to the FAQ: What would be a good set of Reddit defaults for blind users? (self.Blind)
submitted by fastfinge
I've gotten a question a few times, both from sighted people asking "What do you enjoy on Reddit anyway? It's mostly images!" as well as blind people I've introduced to Reddit asking "There are so many images! What should I subscribe to anyway?" I thought that, perhaps, our community could come together to help me create an FAQ entry in our FAQ For Blind Readers that might answer this question.

When you first sign up to Reddit, you're automatically subscribed to a list of 49 default subreddits, on a large variety of popular subjects. Let's pretend that we could create our own list of defaults, geared towards people who are using screen-readers. We can't, and I know that'll never happen. But my objective is to get a list of what we think is the best of Reddit, across multiple subjects, that we can point blind users knew on Reddit towards. That way, when newbies unsubscribe from /r/aww, /r/pics, and others, they'll have an idea of something to replace them with, even if they're too knew to Reddit to have discovered many subreddits themselves yet.

Edit: if you don't know what the current defaults are, the list is $1.

I made this an announcement.

Edit: want to see this list as a multi? Here you go: https://www.reddit.com/me/m/blinddefaults

Here's my list. Feel free to create your own list of 49 if you like, or just offer suggestions on this one. I've tried to collect a good variety of subs, but yes, this list is a little scued towards my own interests, obviously, because it's just the good stuff I've found. I do expect to be replacing some of these before I put this in the FAQ; two fanfiction subs as default? I don't think so! LOL

I think this is a great idea! I like TIL because it mostly devolved into funny conversations or puns. TIFU is also mainly text based, as is petty revenge.

I tried to list ones that weren't geared towards my interests.
