I've gotten a question a few times, both from sighted people asking "What do you enjoy on Reddit anyway? It's mostly images!" as well as blind people I've introduced to Reddit asking "There are so many images! What should I subscribe to anyway?" I thought that, perhaps, our community could come together to help me create an FAQ entry in our FAQ For Blind Readers that might answer this question.
When you first sign up to Reddit, you're automatically subscribed to a list of 49 default subreddits, on a large variety of popular subjects. Let's pretend that we could create our own list of defaults, geared towards people who are using screen-readers. We can't, and I know that'll never happen. But my objective is to get a list of what we think is the best of Reddit, across multiple subjects, that we can point blind users knew on Reddit towards. That way, when newbies unsubscribe from /r/aww, /r/pics, and others, they'll have an idea of something to replace them with, even if they're too knew to Reddit to have discovered many subreddits themselves yet.
Edit: if you don't know what the current defaults are, the list is
$1.
