Is he a local friend? Why not encourage or help him to get out of the house and stop moping around so much?

I don't think cat facts will improve his mood any, haha. Actual meaningful engagement with other people and getting out might, though.

He is local, but on the other side of town. And sadly, I am swamped with my junior year of college. I call him and chat for a while about ever other day, but I'm not able to go visit him as often as I'd like to.

What do you normally do on the weekends? Can you invite him along?
of-the-Shire 2 points 6y ago
I've had to go home (about an hour from my university) for the past couple of weekends for school-related stuff. I do what I can to keep my own self motivated to do things, so I have some personal things to deal with, as well. If he could get a free ride to my apartment, I'd be happy to let him hang out while I study!

Given what you describe (he's depressed, parents aren't encouraging him to get out, he's being really stubborn about getting help) then yes, being out and with other people might help him out of his funk. It's hard to see the way out when you're surrounded by your own misery.

And if you want to send him our way, by all means. I'm the tough love part of this subreddit, I think.

if hes not a cat person, then he must be a dog person

How did he go blind?
of-the-Shire 2 points 6y ago
He was in a car accident, and had a severe cerebral hemorrhage.

Oh gosh, that's horrible. What types of animals does he enjoy?
of-the-Shire 2 points 6y ago
He particularly enjoys dogs! Thankfully, his parents have a very friendly dog, and she keeps him company.

Man that's so sad. I lost my sight about 3 years ago now and moped around my parents' house for ages too. Send him my way if he needs someone to talk to.

I am sure that he is depressed, but he is very stubborn and doesn't think he needs help. Sadly, his parents don't do a whole lot to get him motivated, either. For a while, he was dead-set on using his cane, but he uses it outside of the house now. He still refuses to learn Braille, or anything else that's "new" to him. What state do you live in?

Pokeman Go

Unfortunately, Pokemon GO is not the most accessible game for people with vision loss.
