Hot damn, they actually listen to my bug report that I posted a few months back…

Apparently! Now if Reddit just fixes the problem with nested comments not actually being nested for screen-readers, and changes the labels of the upvote and downvote buttons after they've been pressed, they'd be almost completely accessible!

For the main desktop site, I also wouldn't mind having each post link be a heading or set up with some form of a trait that is easily navigated through using a screen reader when on the front page or within any sub.

The quick way to do this is by pressing b to jump from button to button, if your screen reader supports that. I don't really find it a problem myself, because I always vote on everything anyway, so I want to hit the buttons for each post.

Glad to hear it! While there will still be users who need the captcha bypass (and I hope the admins will remain receptive to this) adding an audio option substantially improves access. I'm really glad to see some progress being made on reddit accessibility!

I don't get captchas... why?
fastfinge [OP]2 points6y ago
If you have gold, you don't get CAPTCHAs. If you have more than some particular karma threshhold, you don't get CAPTCHAs. It's just new users with no karma and no gold who get them. So if someone is getting a CAPTCHA and can't get hold of the admins for some reason, the quick solution is to guild them; by the time the month of gold from that runs out, they should have enough karma built up they won't get CAPTCHAs anymore.

Good to know

Robots can't process warped text. This prevents DDoSes and the like.

I don't get these anymore on this account, because I have high enough karma. Can someone who does test this? Is the audio reasonable, or is it so garbled it's nearly impossible?

ReCAPTCHA is usually pretty good with their audio, especially recently. The last few times I've used it, it's been awesome.
Update: just tried it out. It's very clear.

Thanks! Now all that remains is to update the FAQ. Although the folks in /r/deafblind will probably still need that info, so maybe not.
