Now that the presidential election is getting close, what do you think about the candidates in relation to your own issues?(self.Blind)
submitted by cajwalkman
Also, Donald Trump has recently been in the news accused of mocking disabled people multiple times. If you are against him and your family supports him, how do you deal with that?
claudettemonet9 points6y ago
I was wondering how long it would take for politics to weasel it's way into r/blind. The reality is a lot of the r/blind regulars are Canadian or from elsewhere in the world. I'm one of the few Americans here, that I know of. I think Nighthawk is American... anyway...
All I can say about Trump is that he is a douche canoe. I haven't really thought about the two candidates' actual policies and how they would effect blind issues, because this election is rediculous. I feel like we have never even gotten to any real issues. All Trump ever says is "everything sucks and I'll replace it with something awesome." So the choice is between someone with some sort of actual plans, which are in themselves debatable, and someone with shit for plans, who stands around spouting bigoted gibberish and grabbin' pussy.
Like I said, he is a douche canoe. As far as dealing with family members who disagree with my view of this fuck nugget, well there is just my grandma and I pretend she is super senile (even though she isn't) and try to gently nudge her toward reason by bringing up his treatment of women and his pathological lying. Sometimes she relapses into senility and rants about media conspiracy. It takes a lot of patience. I know that even if she votes for Trump I will still love her... just so long as that rapebucket doesn't win the election. If he does her ass is getting dumped in the nursing home and we are all getting the fuck out of America, cause if Trump fucking wins, it's the second Haulocaust just around the corner.
I fucking hate cults of personality. Fuck trump and fuck the idiocy of humanity that makes him possible!
Sorry did that polarize everyone? (Insert insincere face here) (insert arms-raised in a what-are-you-going-to-fucking-do-about-it stance face here)

I have never been more pleased not to be an American. You get to choose: Nixon 2.0 or Hitler 2.0. I'm so glad that's not a choice I have to make!
claudettemonet3 points6y ago
That sums it up perfectly. But i gotta say Nixon 2.0 everytime. In the Haulocaust the disabled (including the blind) were some of the first to go, right along with homosexuals and gypsies. Nixon was a p.o.s., but one of the top ten worst human beings to ever live? Not even close.
fastfinge2 points6y ago
The scary thing is that the Trump supporters aren't going to go quietly. Also, I'm not convinced that your military will agree to follow Clinton, for various reasons. Things are going to get really interesting over there, no matter what happens.
Also, I read somewhere (and I wish I could remember where) someone compared this election to your friends voting on what to do for dinner. If 60% of your friends vote to order pizza, and 40% of them vote to kill and eat you, you've still got a massive problem, even though Pizza won.
claudettemonet3 points6y ago
Holy shit, yes! As to the military. They hate Trump. I think they'll support Clinton.. so at least there is that.
drury4 points6y ago
Not sure if Trump support is that simple.
For instance... There is an actual media conspiracy. I know I'm rapidly losing credibility, but hear me out. Sure, the media is just signal-boosting the crap Trump actually says, but they make sure not to ever mention any crap on Hillary, and there's a LOT of it. I don't normally subscribe to the right-wing guy going by "Sargon of Akkad", but here he's pretty much just reading the facts as they come in Wikileaks: https://youtu.be/dtRj6x1jHuU She's as wrapped around Wall Street's fingers as she has the media wrapped around her finger. Bernie Sanders called her out on this. Then, according to Wikileaks, Hillary rigged the election against - you guessed it - Bernie Sanders. You will never hear any of this on CNN. You won't even read it on default reddit subs; articles about this get deleted: https://youtu.be/zQcfjR4vnTQ
There's only one man calling her out on all of above - Donald Trump. Hopefully, now you can see what grandma's going on about.
I don't think he's the answer, though.
I'm glad I'm not American and can't vote in your elections. Even if I could, I wouldn't. I've kept an eye on your candidates. I see both options equally bad. You either get Trump (you summed him up quite nicely), or you get a corrupt and equally evil hag who brushes her crap under the carpet. Europe has its own issues, but as far as I can tell it's nowhere near the political nightmare that is the US Congress. Land of Freedom, my ass.
Feel free to come regardless of who wins your elections, we have tasty regulated Swiss chocolate and the finest canned surstromming.

I'm going to vote for Gary Johnson in protest. That's what I am going to to do.
fastfinge3 points6y ago
You're going to vote for a man who asked, in the most baffled and confused voice I have ever heard, "What...Is an Aleppo?" That was a shocking moment of cringe.
Relevant_Monstrosity2 points6y ago
Did you even read what he posted on reddit after that? He explained everything.
fastfinge1 points6y ago
No. I'm a Canadian, so the only times I get exposed to Gary Johnson are when he happens to show up on the local Ottawa news for saying something particularly moronic. Same with Jill Stein. But when US third party candidates can be summed up by "schools are evil and magical crystals will solve all our problems", it doesn't surprise me that they have zero chance of winning anything, even if the Aleppo quote does have some reasonable excuse behind it.
claudettemonet3 points6y ago
I can't do that. I'm in the never Trump camp. I was a history teacher, once upon a time. He reminds me too much of Mao or Hitler. The inflammatory things he says, the way the people respond to him, it is creepy. It is a cult of personality.
So yes, I'll vote for the Hill. She is shadey, but no one is crazy enough about her to follow her into some insane vendetta against the favorite scapegoat of the moment.
I'm just anti Haulocaust, be it nuclear or otherwise, and with all the bigotry and downright idiocy that comes flooding out of Trump's mouth, like disentry out of an asshole, I am not certain he is anti-Haulocaust. His confusion over why we don't use more nukes and why NATO is a thing, combined with his half baked plans to deport people in mass is fucking terrifying, especially when he is one of two nominees for president of the most powerful nation on the globe.
As bizarre and surreal as this campaign has been, this is real. This is real life, and the stakes here are unbelievably high.
Edit: flow and brevity
Relevant_Monstrosity3 points6y ago
Frankly, Republicans are not about to follow him into totalitarianism either.
awesomesaucesaywhat2 points6y ago
But the masses might. It's pretty scary all around.
claudettemonet1 points6y ago
Hopefully.. in regards to Rebluplucans not following him into totalitarianism.
awesomesaucesaywhat3 points6y ago
I cannot express how much I love this response from you! Like, mucho mucho love!
claudettemonet2 points6y ago
Haha. Thanks!

When dealing with people who agree with things like what donals Trump says, I usually let them figure it out by themselves. Example, my former boss is a big fan of Trump's wall plan, and he is fully expecting for Mexico to pay for it.
I mentioned the wall we already have (we actually already have a wall, George Bush Jr. built it, and it was as effective as you though tit might be. You don't have to believe me, all you have to do is research into the border wall that runs through the brownsville in the middle of nowhere and just ends in the dessert, literally, all you have to do to get around is to walk around it.)
He said "what bush did was a publicity stunt, he just wanted people to get behind him"
-(Me) and, it worked for him right? he finished it and got re-elected?"
"yes, and I honestly thought it was not a good move, but it did get him a lot of support"
(Me) - "so, trump is a Business man, why would he not use the strategy he knows a previous successful president used before? Why would he not repeat the successful efforts of a previous president in wining him the white house, why should we trust that this effort is any more honest than Bush's effort? "
(Former Boss)- "You are being too skeptical by not trusting him"
I did the same thing with the Hillary investigations. (F.B. former boss) (F.B.)- "Hillary is a liar and a criminal, she manipulated the investigation" (ME)- "Kinda like how Oliver North did right?" (F.B.)- "Oliver North had a hearing and congress and was declared Inocent" (ME)- "But you and I know pretty much that he was right? he got away on a technicality and destroyed evidence. So, the same people that found Oliver North Inocent now find Hillary Clinton Inocent, and somehow this time they are wrong? ah, see, pattern recognition"
(F.B.) -(he is a big reagan fan) "*chuckles* I will do ANYTHING to protect this country"
And THAT is when I knew we were not going to get along much in the field of politics.
My point is, just followthem through basic logic. I believe (or have a a theory), that if I can prove 2+2=4 to someone, I can prove facts, (smae as with evolution, if I can prove preferences exist, I can prove that things get different the more apart they are. I think the actual thing is wrongly explained and named. People think "evolution" as a "magic" word. All it is, is an explanation of WHY animals look different and survive in their environment by the survival of superior and desirable traits specific to the environment which they live in. I.E.- Why Mommies with freckles tend to have kids with freckles, and why people who are born with very serious and genetic disorders do't reproduce as often.)

I like him and I don't care that he made fun of disabled people. I'm blind my self and I make fun of my self all the time.
Nighthawk3211 points6y ago
I'm not voting for a giant douch or a turd sandwich.
nycefm-2 points6y ago
Besides you liberals have a mental disorder. I have not seen one disabled person ever vote for a republican because you all relie on killery. The fucking bitch needs to be locked away.
awesomesaucesaywhat2 points6y ago
Perhaps you are having trouble dating women because you say things like this.

Please remain civil in this sub.
This is a very friendly sub and we would like to keep it that way.
nycefm2 points6y ago
Sorry for that there were other things on my mind. It just makes me sick how people in the disabled comuity are harping on this one thing. When Hiller had american troops killed over seas. When she deleted 33,000 emails after being told by the us government not to delete them.
