Blind Field Services in CA (self.Blind)
submitted by artsyfartsy-fosho
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used Blind Field Services (part of Department of Rehabilitation/SSD) in CA or something similar in your state? According to their website (http://www.rehab.cahwnet.gov/SSD/Blind-Field-Services.html) they help with job placement and accessibility assistance for those who have problems getting or retaining work due to their vision impairment. I just happened to come across their website trying to find blind friendly work for my wife and wondered if anyone has worked with them before. Thanks for any help!

I have had good experiences with DOR as a client but I don't know nothing about their job placement.

Oh interesting. So what do you mean as a client?

It's just their term for someone who receives services from them. They pay for my OM and some assistive tech stuff that supports my goal of graduating college and being employed. Eventually I will be using their job services though.

Awesome! So it sounds like they're pretty generous when it comes to getting what you need?

If you are actively working towards an employee ment goal they are super helpful! The state no longer pays for homemaker cases, so unfortunately their services aren't available for people that aren't looking to be employed. I would definitely recommend your wife work then with if she can!
