How do blind people tell the time? (self.Blind)
submitted by Jumpmobile
Hi

Guest here. This question has always bothered me. How do blind people know what time it is? Do you always have to ask for the time, or are there special clocks that show the time in braille?

Yes, braille watches exist; $1 is the state of the art. At those prices, though, it's unlikely I will ever own one. The Apple watch is also $1. For more reasonable prices, around $30 or so, Amazon has a good selection of $1. Personally, though, I just unlock my IPhone and check the time with its screen reader. But if I wanted a watch, I've got lots of options.

I usually use a clock to tell them time :p. Phones, talking watches, computers, etc. Pretty much every way a sighted person does.

They can use a watch like everyone else. They have touchable faces.

I just use my iPhone. With VoiceOver turned on it reads everything on the screen, so simply bringing up my phone and hitting any of the buttons will show the lock screen and it will quickly tell me the time and date.

I have a clock the sings a different birds voice every hour or if I have an appointment, I ask my phone for exact time.

I use my iPhone, which has a $1 built into it which in turn reads the time from the lock screen out loud.
