Can people who become completely blind later in life, still "see"? (self.Blind)
submitted by Darthkeeper
I can't find this answer anywhere on the internet, so I thought I'd ask here (your ad worked lol). Anyways, I was wondering if say someone grows up with vision, but eventually lost it can they still recall what things looked like?

Edit: I had a feeling they could, but now I know for sure. Thanks guys! Stay awesome.

Yes, it is called visual memory.

However, what they remember from the past may get distorted over time. If someone last saw a car a few decades ago, their memories may not completely match up to what cars look like now.

Yes, of course they can.

Also, there are some primitive hacks that let formerly sighted people see, at low resolution. There is a camera, computer, and harness setup that prints the outlines of whatever the camera is looking at, on a person's back, using pressure. With practice the image is usable, but the resolution is only about 200 x 200, so it lets you find doorways, the refrigerator and sink, etc., and maybe you might be able to recognize a familiar person who is standing right in front of you.

There are probably better versions of this now. I read about this years ago.
