If this happens to you, don't leave. If it has been established that a location allows service animals, they can't remove you for having one. And here in the US, they definitely cannot. It would be a very big mistake for someone to tell me to leave a place with my guidedog, but it would be even bigger if they physically tried to remove me or called the police. It's always flippin' idiots with ego-complexes that try this crap, and it has never gone well for them (In my cases at least).

What are you supposed to do if they want you to leave and won't serve you? Is there someone you can call, like an ADA help line? Or do you just keep telling them the law until they give up?

It depends on where you are. Many guide dog users have a card that details the specific law. At least in Ontario, the card also specifies the number for the Attorney General, in case they want to call. But you can also call the police non-emergency number and have the police investigate. It can be tricky when it becomes a he said/she said situation, though.

I'm not sure what kind of mindset you've got to be in to think there's anything to gain from pushing someone around because they're blind.
Like, who pissed in their cereal?

Chances are if they don't wise up after the first time you tell them, you're probably not going to get served. But, you can always continue to be pain in their ass by taking up a seat and refusing to move. Just depends on how obstinate you can be. But the more effective solution would be to get in contact with the manager, supervisor, or owner, and show them the legislation that they have violated or allowed to be violated. Usually this will take care of it, and you might even get some free stuff. If they still refuse, then its time to bring in the lawyers. It often doesn't have to go that far though.

Guide Dogs UK have been running a campaign about access for guide dogs here in the UK. Sadly this is not an isolated incident. It is against the law here for businesses not to allow access to owners and there guide dogs. Usually what happens is the business apologises but no charges are usually brought against the business. Guide dogs uk also issue a card that explains the law but sometimes we are not dealing with the brightest of people.
