do you guys have memes, too? (self.Blind)

I mean, two things first come to mind to this question:

1. Not all memes are visual, and I feel like in phrasing/asking this question, you're assuming that they are? it's just as possible to be a part of meme culture, even if it isn't necessarily as easy as you might have it, for example.

2. I don't really think this is applicable in terms of because someone is blind, more like... how they expose themselves to culture and social media because of it? For example, I am blind, and I hate facebook, but I'm such a tumblr slut it's a bit unreal. I also am pretty big in fandom, and Skype chats, so I'm definitely exposed to meme-culture and all that kind of thing. The average blind person might not be, to be fair, but to be honest, I couldn't tell you; I don't really associate with many blind people.

I was actually having a discussion with a friend of mine while playing CAH recently though; it was on a blind-geared server, and there was a meme in one of the cards. We both got it, but some of the people we were playing with didn't, and it spawned the discussion of whether or not the average blind person is as attuned to memes as the average sighted person is.

So uh. Honestly I think I got a bit off-track/convoluted with my reply, but I hope I... made you think? Gave you some insight?

Hey,
This is a bit of unrelated comment, but I am currently writing a book where one of my characters is blind. I was hoping to find someone to interview on Skype to be able to portray the character in an authentic way. Since I saw you mention that you like Skype chats, would you be interested in helping me out?

Well, I think most of us are aware of "mainstream" memes, even though we can't see the image. I think I've typed "I am disappoint" a few times on Reddit, as I feel at least vaguely aware enough of the reference to make it. There are also memes that aren't primarily visual, like the "How is babby formed?"/"they need to do way instain mother!" $1 from several years ago, as one example. Also, back when the ad that $1 is mocking was a thing, the "skip ad" button wasn't accessible to the Voiceover screen-reader on IOS. So I think I appreciated that edit a little more than normal! Man, listening to this again is bringing back memories of just how much I hate that guy. I hope his bookshelves all burned up in a terrible Lamborghini fire.

As to memes particular just to blind people, there are a few. But the blind community isn't tightly knit enough for them to really spread to the point where every single blind person has heard them. Does singing dectalk qualify? Absolutely everyone was doing that a few years back. But otherwise, they tend to be a stupid sound that someone recorded and shared with all his blind friends, or an NSFW edit of a Harry Potter audio book, or something, but it only ever spreads to perhaps 4 or 5 hundred people.

Knooowledge.

Christ, that brings back memories. Also, I'm pretty sure that my brother told me that there was a time when that ad wasn't able to be skipped--by anyone. Which is probably why it became such a meme in the first place, I imagine. So don't feel so alone! xD

I'm guessing you guys use software which reads out the words on screen? I guess that could make for some interesting humour since BALLS FANNY HUMONGOUS PENIS people can just type random rude words all of a sudden.
