I know that people may ask this a lot, but what replaces sight when you are blind your whole life? (self.Blind)
submitted by Beta_Null
I can't really imagine what the world must be like for someone who can't and never could see. The closest thing I can think of is what I see when I close my eyes: black, a total wall of darkness. As silly as this question is: What does a blind person "see"?

Someone who is born blind totally blind doesn't "see" anything. It would be like if a shark came up to you and asked you what it was like to not sense electromagnetic fields. You've never experienced it before.

The part of the brain that deals with sight (the visual cortex) is still used, but it is used differently. In MRIs, it often lights up when a blind person is reading braille or other cognitive functions pertaining to sensory information.

Ever see that video of the young man who IIRC had eye cancer. He could skateboard and play sports by clicking his tongue and using a form of echo location.

He could even identify objects using it.
