Anybody here with very low vision just prefer to shut their eyes sometimes? (self.Blind)
submitted by DarthCyrina
I'm definitely in that camp. For me, everything is grey and blurry and I can only see light and some color. It puts a lot of strain on my eyes trying to see through the grey and since I have limited color perception everything tends to look the same and I tend to hurt myself or bump into things more if I have my eyes open.

So a lot of time I just shut them.
Anybody else do the same?

Side note: ever since the retina shenanigans a week (well technically a week and a half) ago, my floaters are gone. Yay! I always hated them

I shut mine all the time, especially when they are particularly sore or there is bright light. It's actually part of why I wear dark sunglasses, since people get funny when you close your eyes while talking or walking about.

Yeah I've gotten some *weird* looks from kids at school when I randomly shut my eyes while walking down the hall. Since nobody seems to know what the heck a white caine is nobody knows what it means. So nobody but people I actually know know I'm blind. So I get some pretty hilarious reactions

I get that too! People constantly walk into my cane, it's like how do you now know what this is used for? My grandmother actually asked me once how I could see where I was walking when I closed my eyes, she then gasped and said "what a sightist thing to say!"

Yeah, I'm super light sensitive. Unfortunately for me, my visual disturbance and light sensitivity persist when my eyes are closed

For me it's a special case. My right eye is extremely bad but I can still somewhat make colors and shapes out of it. Lefty is fine, tho.

My right eye is much more sensitive to bright light (or so it feels), and *much* more sensitive to irritation. It also has the tendency to go a bit more to the right altho I'm watching forward, giving me double vision with an annoying blur. Therefor I close it almost all the time, looking like I'm blinking. I try to avoid it in public, but I keep catching myself shutting that eye, and people always give you funny looks for it.

I've known some kids who do, but it is usually because they are very light sensitive. It doesn't sound like that is your case, though. Has any sort of magnification helped?

Yes, I have to shut my eyes frequently. I wear dark glasses all the time, and will even break out an eye patch when needed. There's a blindfold created for visually impaired people that's incredible. It's called 'Mindfold', and it blocks out all light, and is shaped that your eyes can be open or closed comfortably. I bought mine through The Lighthouse for the Blind in San Francisco. If you have sensitivity to light (as I do), the Mindfold is an amazing relief when you need to rest.

I often keep my eyes cl se, such as when reading (audio or braille), walking or running (most of the time), out in the public when comfortable (in bus etc).
Sight is tinnitus. Audio is more useful for me, i hope to learn to rely on sound only...
