It isn't the fact that people are getting the implant that is exciting, but that the government is paying for it. Most governments wouldn't pay for such a device, and this is a good sign of them paying for more such procedures, especially since the cost puts it out of reach of most people.

All medical treatment is free here in the UK. That includes all your eye treatment. In Scotland we also get free prescriptions. The NHS is a wonderful thing and the medical care is top notch.

I wish all treatment was free, but it's only free if it's cost effective. Still, it's great that the NHS decided this is.

I find it ironic that I'd have to pay for my glasses but I can get a bionic eye for free

Ah yes I can get the eye test for free but I would have to pay for the prescription glasses if I still wore them.

In Canada, we cover a lot of treatments as well, but not everything.
