Activities for a blind 5 year old? (self.Blind)
submitted by flathead_fisher
I work in a hospital ward that rarely has awake children let alone mentally alert and appropriate ones (ICU). I'm looking after a beautiful kid who wants to play and we've told stories to each other, but I'm running out of ideas... Unfortunately our therapists are on holidays and therfore have not got access to many resources

We've sang the Lion King musical, I've got him to guess animals based on their sounds and played with building blocks to improve his tactile abilities/ keep him stimulated. Anyone got any ideas for this poor bored kid?

P.S I'm a pretty boring dude

Podcasts? There's a million of them out there, now. I know it's a passive activity, but for a kid in a hospital, it might be a good way to pass a lot of dull hours.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03g64pd I was recently recommended this website for good podcasts for blind kids. Also, sensory activities. Playdoh, sand, making art with glue and textured items. My son is younger so I'm not really sure but I know there are ways to raise drawings. Also for movies many have audio description.
