Think you could help with my University Project? Using sound to make graphs/charts quicker to parse for Blind and Partially Sighted Web Users (self.Blind)
submitted by TheGeorge
Hi, for my University Final Year we have to create a prototype and write a 40 page report about it.

25% of the mark is for the project being relevant to my course of Web Development, and being potentially beneficial to society.

My research has shown graphs/charts aren't handled well by existing solutions. So, I started to investigate the idea of using sounds paired with existing assistive technology to make graph/charts easier to read quickly.

This was inspired by a radio show talking about ways to represent data in a purely sound format for radio, in which it converted line chart datapoints into sound frequencies and then played the sound of the entire chart.

To be perfectly honest, I heard of the idea first then tried to think of ways to apply it that would be beneficial, that is when I found the research on the topic of representing data for blind/partially sighted users.

So to this end, I'd like to have a brief preliminary informal chat on what you, as blind users, partially sighted users and friends of the community view as essential to a web app aimed at that target audience.
