CNIB Ontario is excited to join your community! (self.Blind)
submitted by CNIB_Ontario
Just wanted to say 'Hi'!

CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) is a registered charity, passionately providing community-based support, knowledge and a national voice to ensure Canadians who are blind or partially sighted have the confidence, skills and opportunities to fully participate in life.

This account represents the Ontario region and we just learned about this community. We look forward to being a part of it!

Are there any plans to create CNIB accounts for the other provinces, or would this be the only one?

It's just us for now. I can't really speak to how familiar the other regions are with using Reddit, but it's something we could look into if there's some demand for it

Good to have another organization join the community. You're the second one here; the only other organization active regularly on this sub right now is /u/NationalBraillePress. Though we've got people who work for all kinds of places posting under there personal accounts.

Thanks for the mention!

I wonder if you could help me find some information. I would like to know a little about what is involved when a person introduces a new guide dog to his master. I understand this position may be referred to as an orientation mobility worker. Is this an actual position that someone can apply for or is it only a small part of what they do? I contacted my local branch to ask and they forwarded me to TO. TO told me that the training program is so new they couldn't actually give me much information and that I should try on line. When I sent a request for more information including education requirements and experience necessary for a position in this line of work, I received a form to donate money with no response that I could see. It sounds like everyone is crazy busy getting this program going and I think it must be really exciting.
