Thank you for caring about others. I appreciate it. This world is cold, so people like you are vital and dwindling, but had the man been sighted, would it have been bad for someone to honk and tell him to move his butt?
Drivers do get frustrated, and even though, that isn't very nice, was he moving slowly? Had the light changed. Might you have also told him to move along if he had vision? These questions are important, because it is way better to treat a blind person like an equal than to feel sorry for us because our life is so hard.
It can be hard, especially for newly blind people or those who have trouble adjusting, but for most of us, I'm happy to report that blindness is really just kind of a pain in the ass more than it is a disability. You have to take longer to get places, because you take the bus, you deal with people treating you like your disability is mental rather than physical, etc, but a lot of us get used to it.
Personally, I'm a pretty happy person. Walking and taking the bus don't bother me, especially if the weather's nice. Then, walking is pleasant, and I do it just to get out of the house.
