looking for some ideas for a long trip (self.Blind)
submitted by simpleman84
I wanted to go visit a friend who lives about four hours driving time away from me, so I bought a bus ticket.

I have an over protective family who still view me as a child even though I'm 32 years old, and no, I don't care if they're "just trying to help". I have the right to do whatever I choose regardless of their approval.

I currently live with my mom, so I can save up for a new place. I didn't get the deposit back from my last one. Either way, I need someone to watch my little dog. He isn't a service dog, just my little buddy, but I don't want to just have him borded somewhere. If he were staying in someone's home, I guess I could get used to it being with strangers, but I was really wanting someone in my family to care for him for the five days I'd be gone. I just feel better with it being someone he knows.

My family, believing their little boy doesn't need to be riding the big nasty greyhound bus by himself, refused to watch my dog. I know this is the real reason, because the discussion had nothing to do with Toby before I brought up someone watching him. It was all "Why are you doing this? Why do you have to do this?" bla bla bla. My dad foundout I had already bought the ticket and went absolutely bolistic, because I'm supposed to ask for permission before I do anything, and if my daddy says no, I'm supposed to respectfully say "Okay Daddy," or something like that I guess. Either way, he was pissed that I decided to go and disregard his orders to stay home.

Now, I'm looking for a ride share community which will actually have active members. I have posted with a few of them, but they are full of old ads which haven't been maintained. One had a phone number which didn't belong to the guy anymore.

I know not everybody drives down I-64, so that might be part of the problem, but I just think all of these sites don't have enough people on them.

Does anybody have any ideas or reccomendations for services that are more likely to work. Greyhound won't let me take my dog on their bus. I did post on /r/rideshare. I will also try Craig's List.

Uber. More expensive, but it may be worth it for you.

I didn't realize Uber went out of town. I did hear that they started Uber Highway in Florida, but I thought that was limited to that particular state.

If they went further, it would definitely be an option.

I've taken Ubers from Palm Springs to LA, Parris, Ontario, Riverside, etc.

Just when you call the car, tell the driver that it's a 4 hour fair, and you have a dog, offer a 20% tip, and ask if they'd be willing to do it for you. If so, I'd say get their name and nfumber and call them to schedule a return trip for the same price, just in case you don't get as lucky getting a driver returning.
