What kind of jobs are low vision or blind people able to maintain? (self.Blind)
submitted by dat-boiii
I have retinitis pigmentosa and I'm just curious to see was some of your jobs are as someone who is visually impaired.

I went totally blind almost 3 years ago, and in that timeframe I became an expert with voiceover and used my former software development quality assurance knowledge to become an accessibility specialist and I now work at Lyft as their specialist making sure the app and all the new features work for the blind and people with disabilities. I also completed the web accessibility specialist certification at DeQue University, and I am beginning to shop myself around as an accessibility consultant for mobile applications and websites, going to as many a11y meetups as I can to network along with joining up with any research studies I can participate in to meet the engineers and get my name out there.

Hey there. Are you going to be attending the CSUN conference in San Diego this year? If so, we should meet up. I'll be presenting a session with my wife called Walking the walk: Trainers time in the trenches.

I'm still mulling it over, I wasn't initially planning on going and of course I've missed all of the early bird and normal pricing. I'm also not quite confident enough in my independent travel skills just yet to make the trip, although it would be a great test. I'm also interested in taking the IAACC test.

What's rao?

Retinal arterial occlusion, basically a stroke thrown through the main artery that supplies blood to the retina effectively killing all of the retinal cells. Happened in 30 minutes totally out of the blue while recovering from eye surgery.

Well shit... That doesn't sound fun.

Understatement of the year. I was hyper visual before losing my vision, I studied to be an animation expert, and was a senior animator and visual FX artist working on national commercials and high-end corporate videos. I'm still in the process of coming to terms with the fact that I won't be able to do that anymore, at least not until medical science figures out a way to restore my vision.

If all goes well I'll soon join the civil service as some type of bureaucrat or other (I'm waiting for civil service exam results). I know blind people working in law, programming, physiotherapy, psychology... What's generally pretty hard is to get so-called unskilled work.

I am not totally blind but I am Visually Impaired with a disease called Cone Dystrophy. I am an eBay Seller. I have a lot of magnifying tools to inspect the items I'm selling, and have my PC completely adjusted for my vision to list the items. I'm hoping I can keep doing this even if my vision gets worse because I really enjoy it!

I have CRD and I'm in sales.

I sell wholegoods in about a half dozen states, and do a fair bit of our online advertising management, from Google to Craigslist to specialty sites / papers.
