Any blind people with synethsesia? (self.Blind)
submitted by Crazy_ManMan
I have mild synethseia myself and was really curious how it would affect a blind person if they had it.

My wife associates proper names (people and places, mostly), months and days of the week with colours. She was able to see colours earlier in her life, but she is now totally blind.

Which sensory unusual wiring combo do you have?
I have taste/color. Tastes (and scents to some degree) feel/taste like colors. (I used to see some colors, and the tastes don't match the colors of what food or drinks would have physically obviously).

For me it seems like a mixture of them all, but it is so mild I usually only notice it if I pay attention. According to testing my brain wiring is rather unusual (my neural signals like to take the 'scenic route' when being processed) which I think is the reason for the synethesia. I think my hyperesthesia plays a roll as well as my senses are heightened so high I can get 'overload' sometimes. Every now and then a particular image when I am browsing the web I will notice comes with a strong flavor/smell/sensation but this is not very common.

Some of the stuff about synesthesia I've read was suggesting there would be usually sensory pairs (amd direction). But i guess those pairs would be on those with typical sensory inputs :) like no sight loss or hearing loss etc.
Some sensory pairs the book mentioned were eg tasting shapes, or hearing colors in music (apparently common, i wonder do some deaf people get that), taste to touch, touch to a random sense.
Based on your description, i guess you used to see before at least a bit?
My taste/color example would right now mean that I'm enjoying a bubbly wine that tastes like peach color and white and some mild yellow, and that description sums the taste perfectly to me.

Yes I have heard typically most people have just one or a few things mixed but mine seems to be all the senses mixing. Due to the way my brain is wired information is just generally processed different. I am blessed in that I actually have very good eyesight, though the way my mind processes information can have some interesting affects on eyesight. I mostly came here to learn more about blindness (sorry should have made that more clear when posting). Though I do hope to one day try living a month with a blindfold on. I plan on doing similar with other things as well.
