Is there a way to make google maps do text to speech? My son has some vision but can't see street names. He wants to touch a street name and hear it. Any suggestions? Google now maps the inside of some stores so he could find the right aisle is he could hear it. Thanks!

What kind of phone does he have?
iPhone has BlindSquare, and at $29 it's affordable, I use it, I like it. I just shake my phone and it tells me where I am and which way I am heading and how far to go.
I am supposed to trial run Ariadne GPS for the center, $5.99 and also for iPhone. I have tried AroundMe which was free and functional, and also Seeing Assistant Move, also free and ALL for the iPhone.
Here is the thing, Android phones are so incredibly behind with regards to developing assistive apps it's pathetic. I fought getting an iPhone hard, but all of the good cheap and/or free technology is all iOS based and it comes with a panoply of voice assist tools.

I am so sorry that there isn't anything for Android. :(
Well, there is, but entry level is like $100.

Apple Maps does this on iOS when VoiceOver is on. I'm not aware of another map program that does this.

I'll try it with voice over again, thanks.

This isn't Google Maps, but something to try out might be Google Intersection Explorer. It is a Beta, though, so it doesn't work on all phones. And I think work on it has actually stopped for a few years now.....

I'll check it out, thanks

Hey I've been thinking about something like this to aid accessiblenavigation. Would he be using it to identify what intersection he's currently at or for route planning?
