Question for people with Amazon Echo (self.Blind)
submitted by newellka
Hi everyone! I am curious about how you all feel about the Amazon Echo or devices like it. It seems to me (as a sighted person) that it has the potential to be very helpful for blind users even if it isn't quite where it needs to be. What about it, if anything, do you find helpful? What do you wish it could do? I would appreciate any insight you can give me about your experience with this. Thanks!

i am legally blind (20/200) and my wife got me the echo dot for christmas, i love the fact that i dont have to sit infront of a TV to get the information i need to know wether or not i should venture out on any given day. i also use it to remind me to take my medication as well as set timers for when im cooking, over all i am very pleased with the tech

My husband is blind, and we wanted to cut the cable cord so we got the Amazon Fire stick. Does very well with finding programs or movies available through Amazon, but the screen reader does not play well with other apps like Slingtv or Netflix. Basically reads the headers for the row, or the name of the channel, but not the title of what's showing. He does like it enough that he asked for an additional fire stick for another tv

You may want to consider getting an Apple TV for that; much more accessible.
