irritating changes to modmail (self.Blind)
submitted by fastfinge
Edit: This issue has been $1.

I was originally just going to post this as a message to our moderators here at /r/blind, but I figured some of you might mod other subs, and want to know.

So: at some point yesterday, Reddit removed some of the icon labels in modmail when a message is open. Now, when you open a message, just above the subject line, NVDA will read "banner landmark. Blank." When you get to this blank line, press the home button on your keyboard, to take you to the start of the line. Now, when you cursor write, you will hear three "space" characters. Pressing enter on the first space is "highlight", the second is "archive", and the third is "mark unread". Unfortunately, there is no indication that you can click anywhere on this line, or that there are even any icons there. You just have to know that's where they are, and you have to memorize the order. It doesn't make modding impossible, it just makes it irritating. If you do make a mistake, you can tell what you did because at the bottom of the thread, it will say something like "fastfinge highlighted this just now." If that wasn't what you wanted, you can go and press enter in the exact same place you pressed enter before to undo the action. You can then confirm that it says something like "fastfinge unhighlighted this just now". Same for archive.

So, yeah. That's how to do that now, if anyone was wondering.

Yes! Please please let us know if/when the UI feels annoying to you, and we will try our best to fix it up. It's important to us (and to me, personally) that we make reddit accessible to everyone.

Pinging you! Let me know if the new version feels better (make sure to do a hard refresh to get the changes -- our page caching can get a little funky).
