Finally, some progress on Sony's Text to Speech (self.Blind)
submitted by Orinks
Hello everyone,

I'm just gonna keep it short and sweet, since it's after 3 AM.

Sony, I assume it was them, anyway, seemingly out of nowhere, added Text to Speech support to the Netflix and Amazon Video apps!

Granted, it's there but it is a bit buggy, where sometimes you have to go back and forward because sometimes it'll read a letter on the keyboard as you scroll through it, but if you wait a few seconds, it won't read and you have to select it for it to read. Thus, you may have a bit of trouble signing in.

Once I finally signed in, however, a few seconds of lag followed by this kind of behavior continued with the app, where, if I was on the details page of a show, which has six items, sometimes it'll say "1 of 6 buttons" when scrolling through them fast, and not read the actual item. A way around this is to browse slowly, however the lag seems unavoidable at this time.

Keep in mind I've only tried the Netflix app thus far, though I did take a glance at the Amazon app just to see if any other apps other than Netflix got TTS.

I hope this means we'll see more from Sony as far as actually making the interface itself have more TTS.

Hmm, very interesting. Hopefully they'll step up their game, but at this point, Microsoft is as proactive as Apple, and Soni is as far behind as Android.
