submitted by Blakeeyo
Hello my name is Blake. I am 19 years old and I have Pathological Myopia. Also, Im scared. I have lived my life with fairly low vision. From birth, they diagnosed my with Congenital Stationary Night Blindness. I have always had these symptoms. I have stribismus in my right eye, nystagmus in both eyes although it is only really bad when my left eye is covered. I have poor distance vision, and I cannot see in low light or night time. In October of 2016 I went for a visual exam and they just told me there was pigmentation on my retina which instantly led me to believe I had Retinitis Pigmentosa. However, they sent me to a retina specialist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and he gave me this information. I have a posterior staphloma and an increased axial angle. My myopic fundus was lightly pigmented but NO RP. And something was titled but I dont remember what exactly. They also said they saw the spots commonly associated with CSNB. I just asked him straight up, "am I going to go blind?". Which he responded no. My visual acuity had decreased some from when I was a kid, I went from around 20/70 in my left eye and 20/150 in my right eye to around 20/100 in my left and 20/400 in my right. I havent noticed it at all. I have looked up alot of treatments for PM and there are a few that are very effective. Basically my whole thing about this is, I dont want to go blind. Even though I go to a school that helps people with low vision and alot of the students there are either going blind or completely blind, they get around and do their shit fine. Can someone just give me some insight and help me understand what this is? And if you know of how this disease could be treated could you tell me that as well? I currently am studying Information Systems in University and dont want to lose my vision due to my love for computers and electronics. Thank you.
