Might be a long shot, but does anyone else here have Optic Nerve Hypoplasia? (ONH) (self.Blind)
submitted by Seatown93
Hi all! New to this community but I figured I'd stop by. I'm currently a 23 year old college student in Wyoming studying criminal justice. Because of the above-mentioned vision issue I can't drive so I get around on bike, which can be kind of interesting when it hits -30F in the winter. I've also been trying to find jobs in the CJ field that will work with me and my disorder, but that's another topic for another post.

I was born with bilateral optic nerve hypoplasia, so my right eye is around 20/400 (on a good day) and the left hovers around 20/40-20/50. I also got stuck with a bit of nystagmus as well.

Back in 2012 I also had to deal with a detached retina in the right eye which took a few surgeries to get a handle on (yayyy pathology!) but it's been relatively stable since.

I'm just curious if anyone else here has ONH. My childhood eye doc, who I saw consistently from the time I was born to when I was 21, said he'd only dealt with one or two other cases of it, so I was wondering if there was anyone else out there.

I know this post is a month old, but I have ONH in my left eye. It's nice to find other adults who have it, as opposed to parents of affected children.

I do, as well. Though its safe to say I'm slightly more blind than either of you are.
Haven't been tested in a few years, though.

I have ONH my right is is 20/400ish and my left is 20/200ish, it depends on whether we are talking nighttime or glaring sun. Do you also have problems with bright light?

Strangely, bright light issues have become more of a problem for me as I've gotten older.
The degree to which I'm effected isn't consistent, either.
I'm in my mid 20s now, so hoping this increased sensitivity doesn't continue to become more of an issue.

Occasionally yeah, though it's obviously not very noticeable with the right eye. Those slit lamps are always a "fun" experience when seeing my eye doc.

i cannot tolerate any kind of bright light. but thats the fun of ONH it effects people differently and yes even my eye doctor said im the only one he's treated in his entire career what other fun things has ONH given you
I have problems with
body temp
heart rate
mood disorder that was attributed to ONH
