(Question) Go Pro accessibility (self.Blind)
submitted by ALWAYS_TELLING_LIES
Hello, /r/Blind.

I'm considering getting a Go Pro Hero 5, but I don't think I'll be able to see the touch screen on it. And with the Hero 5 Session I know I couldn't see to navigate the menu or see what mode it's in.

Go Pro has an app, connection, which is supposed to let you control the settings, mode, and export media to your phone. Has anyone used this app with Voice Over before? If so, how does it work for you?

I've tried the app for general use, and it seems to be accessible, but don't have a camera to try it out with to make sure.

Also, any Go Pro tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

From what I've been able to tell, you can't do the actual mode changes from photos to videos directly from the app, but you can change from video to Loop and from photo to burst. The app will tell you which mood it is in, so you can tell how many times you've pressed the mode change button. The only options resolution wise, are 1080p and 720. I just bought one off Craigslist for about a hundred and thirty bucks.

Can you change the resolution on the app?

It is actually an older one. I believe it was before the 2. The app is reasonably accessible, but not everything is. In particular, browsing images or videos that you have taken with the camera is not doable in the app with voice over. The camera has 3 buttons on it and an LCD display (which actually isn't very useful even for sighted people). The app allows you to adjust settings on the camera which would normally be done through the menus on that LCD screen. It also let's you start recording and you can check to see what type of recording you will get - video, photos, or a burst of photos.

From the app, I assume you can change what kind of recording you will get? IE, on the new ones, adjust it from 4K 30 FPS to 240 FPS at 780P? Switch it ti photo mode, bursts, etc?

I just got a GoPro Hero+ Wifi. Much of it can be controlled from the app, rather than having to use the controls on the camera at all. You would probably need some assistance getting things set up with the connection to the app in the first place, but much of the rest could be done from a combination of the app and using the three hardware buttons on the phone to power off or turn the wifi on or off.

I haven't heard anything about a Hero + wifi, is that a special 4 or 5, or just the basic 5?

Any idea if the app is voice over friendly?

Thanks.
